Pris: A Unique Mobile Camera App Reviews

A True Labor of Love.

Let me be perfectly honest, not only do I personally know the developer of this app, I know him well and I have witnessed the entire development process. What you see here, is a true labor of love. He has poured his attention over every aspect of this app. This is not a shy product, it is opinionated. And while I personally questioned the aspect ratios the camera uses, I have to confess, it has forced me to take some beautiful pictures. Compositions that I would not have had the vision to take otherwise. I have always had deep admiration and respect for the man. Now I can say the same of the app he has made.

Fantastic app.

Ive played with it for a few minutes now, and it has already moved to my dock. The exposure controls are fantastic, and it has a great implementation of a feature Ive wanted for a while: a "scratch pad" for my photos. I often want to take several pictures of my kid but only save the best to the camera roll; this allows me to do that.

Fantastic Camera App

Scratchpad and ability to easily adjust for lighting is amazing! Great job.

Wonderful!

Been playing around with it this morning and can already see this will quickly become my favorite photo app (and, I have many!). Lots of attention to detail and replaces lesser apps that some cost more. No downside yet- no crashes, no flaws. I wish more apps worked this well right out of the gate.

Beautiful, intuitive, great camera app

As a cinematographer and photographer, this is now my favorite iPhone camera app. Pleasure to use.

simple and clean!

excellent app, very easy to use!

Pris tap to snap feature is great

I call it tap to snap, but what i mean is that I really like the touch screen use to take the picture instead of using a button space on the margins of the screen. The controls are great for picking your focus area instead of the iPhone camera bouncing between perceived subjects. Will be using this as my go-to picture taking app from here on out.

Not what I wanted but good

I thought it would allow to fine tune the exposure through the histogram somehow. I should have read the description carefully, because it only shows the histogram and you tuen exposure like every other app with separate focus and exposure boxes. If there was like a gauge to set exposure the same way some apps have to zoom in and out, it would be wonderful, but I still havent been able to find any one photo app with this, and the iPhones original camera app is still the best for this exposure locking thing. Still this is the only app that shows the histogram on the go and it is very stylish. So 5 stars because I dont want to tarnish he 5 star streak from the Devs friends, but I would really give only 3-4 stars until zoom and manual exposure gauge control is added. It could be pinch to zoom and the exposure thing could be dragging the exposure box (when its separated already) dragging it up to increase exposure and dragging it down to diminish exposure (but it stays in place. Then drag it to the side to unlock it. I mean it could be an option to enable or disable it somehow.

Crash Crash

Looks like it might be a neat app but cant really tell as the app crashes quite often. I cannot swipe the lower portion of the app without it crashing. Rebooting the iPhone 4 doesnt help.

Crashing

Sorry to break the lovefest being posted on here. There doesnt seem to be a clear way to stop the video from recording once youre done. And it doesnt seem to be a way to stop anything. Clicking on the icon opens it briefly at times and then it sends you back to the app page. Not always but enough to be annoying.

Good, not Not standard size Photo (in landscape)

I get the square photo in portrait mode -- this is nice. However, non-standard size picture and video in landscape mode is not good in my opinion. I was also lead to believe you could adjust manual sittings for light. NOT true, or not clear how. Also, there is no means for zoom. Correct these issues and will give it 5 stars.

My New Everyday Camera App!

After tinkering with this app for a couple days, it is now my everyday camera app. Ive experienced no crashes at all to date. The scratchpad feature alone is worth the money. Its so easy to tap away, click 30 pics then swipe and decide which ones are saved to my camera roll and which ones are junk. Awesome feature. I didnt get the manual lighting and focus features at first but after messing around with the exposure circle I caught on. Its so easy to take a picture at sunset and not have the sun kill the photo with this app. Just put the exposure circle over the sun. Although landscape pictures arent my thing, Im warming up to the ratio. Its clearly a cinematic throwback. Last but certainly not least is the design and ease of use. This app is sleek and cool. The attention to detail is evident even down to the shutter design. Seriously, this is the easiest camera app to use, no buttons to press, just tap and swipe. Im a fan.

Crashes

I like the interface immensely. All ok until swiping to the viewer. One of the pictures I took consistently crashed the app. Other pix ok. Random. Surely this will get fixed. Then Ill be back for a four or five star rating.

Clever!

I bought it because Gruber said it was clever. He was correct. Rock on!

I really want to like this app.

Its well designed and inspiring to use. Its not completely intuitive but easy to learn the basics. But — video records jerky. Camera and video are slow to start. The app crashed every time I tried to export a photo or video to the Camera Roll. After hours of playing with it and reinstalling it Ive yet to successfully move a photo or video out of Pris. I deleted it from my iPhone 4S and will give it another try a few months from now, when hopefully the bugs have been fixed.

Bad app.

I read about this app on Daring Fireball and downloaded based on their recommendation. After trying to use the app on an iPhone 4 and 4S, I found the app always crashes when trying to export to the camera roll, making it useless for video. I would not recommend this app.

Crashy crashy

Crashes on video export every time Has potential if they fix this extremely buggy app Not ready for release

Very good potential but a little rough and buggy

This app has two cool features — square mode for shooting photos, and very wide screen in video. Both are surprisingly cool, and the square mode photo shooting has increasingly grown on me. As a general matter, the app is well conceived and differentiated. As I use it more, I find myself more impressed. The app has a few problems and execution flaws at this time. 1. Photos and videos dont automatically load into Camera Roll. Instead, you have to swipe to a separate screen and manually deciding whether to export to Camera Roll. I know this was a conscious design choice by the developer, but in using the app I find it to be cumbersome, and this extra layer doesnt at this time allow for any extra functionality (such as editing, etc.) — its just a bureaucratic step added to photo and video shooting. 2. Whenever I try to export a video to Camera Roll, the app crashes. Every time. Havent been able to load a single video to Camera Roll. This bug is a big deal at the moment but I expect it to be fixed in short order. 3. In video mode, the app provides no sound or visual cues to indicate the video has stopped and started other than a running digital clock at the bottom. In practice, this proves confusing about whether one actually took a video, etc. Id definitely recommend the app and anticipate it becoming a 4 or 5 star app in the near future. Very strong out of the gates in a difficult area to execute and differentiate.

Beware showstopping video bug

Dont record videos you care about until showstopping crash-on-video-export-attempt bug is addressed.

Lo Rez

Really like the UI and concept but the photos it exports (on an iPhone 4) to the photo album are super tiny at 640X272 for the panoramic shots. Please upgrade the resolution! It would also be nice to be able to batch export all the photos.
